Information StoryStudio Processes
StoryStudio processes information that you provide or generate while using the service. Depending on the features you use, this may include:
- Account information, such as your email address, account identifier, authentication session information, and information necessary to maintain your StoryStudio account.
- Creative project content, including project titles, story development, outlines, manuscripts, screenplay scenes, chapters, characters, locations, timelines, Story Bible entries, notes, Locked Canon entries, and other information you choose to save.
- Writing activity data, such as manuscript word counts, daily writing progress, project goals, chapter or scene status, and saved writing versions.
- AI interaction data, including prompts, AI conversation history stored in StoryStudio, the project context required to answer a request, AI request timestamps, usage limits, and token-usage information returned by the AI provider.
- Technical and security information, which may include request timestamps, browser or device information, IP address, authentication events, error information, and similar technical metadata processed by StoryStudio or its infrastructure providers to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service.
How StoryStudio Uses Information
StoryStudio uses information only for purposes reasonably related to operating and improving the service, including to:
- Authenticate your account and maintain your signed-in session.
- Save, retrieve, organize, and display your creative projects and writing.
- Provide writing tools such as project planning, manuscript editing, continuity features, Story Bible features, writing progress, version history, and exports.
- Generate AI responses when you intentionally use AI Copilot or another AI-powered feature.
- Enforce AI usage limits and protect the service against abuse, fraud, unauthorized access, or unexpected infrastructure costs.
- Diagnose errors, maintain reliability, and protect StoryStudio and its users.
- Comply with applicable legal obligations and enforce StoryStudio policies and agreements.
AI Copilot and AI-Powered Features
AI features are optional. When you send a request to AI Copilot or another AI-powered StoryStudio feature, StoryStudio may send your prompt and relevant project context to OpenAI through StoryStudio's server so the AI can generate the response you requested.
Relevant context may include portions of your story development, characters, locations, outline, timeline, manuscript or screenplay content, Story Bible, Locked Canon, notes, or other project records when those records are needed to answer your request.
StoryStudio does not require you to use AI features in order to write or manage your project. If you do not want project information sent to an AI provider, do not use features that invoke AI.
AI responses may be inaccurate or incomplete. You remain responsible for reviewing AI-generated suggestions before relying on or incorporating them into your work.
Service Providers
StoryStudio uses service providers that process information as necessary to provide the service. Current core providers include:
- Supabase for authentication, database services, and related backend infrastructure.
- OpenAI for AI generation when you intentionally use AI-powered StoryStudio features.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers used to deliver the StoryStudio web or mobile application, process network requests, maintain security, and diagnose technical problems.
StoryStudio may change or add service providers as the product develops. This Privacy Policy will be updated if those changes materially affect how user data is processed.
Data Sharing and Sale
StoryStudio does not sell your manuscripts, story ideas, project content, or personal information.
StoryStudio does not use your creative project content for advertising. Information may be disclosed to service providers as described in this policy, when you direct StoryStudio to perform a feature requiring that provider, or when disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights, prevent fraud or abuse, or protect the security of users and the service.
Private Projects and Security
StoryStudio is designed around private, authenticated projects. Database access controls use account ownership rules so authenticated users can access only records they are permitted to access. Sensitive administrative credentials and AI provider credentials are intended to remain on trusted server-side infrastructure rather than being exposed to the browser.
StoryStudio and its service providers use technical safeguards designed to protect information in transit and at rest where supported. No online system can guarantee absolute security, so you should also protect your login credentials and maintain offline backups of writing you consider especially important.
Local Device Data
Some preferences may be stored locally in your browser or device rather than in the StoryStudio database. For example, StoryStudio may store writing appearance preferences such as editor font, text size, or text color on the device.
Local preferences can generally be removed by clearing the site's browser storage. StoryStudio also attempts to clear StoryStudio-specific local preferences after successful account deletion.
Exports and Downloads
StoryStudio can create portable project backups and manuscript exports. Certain manuscript exports, including supported DOCX and PDF generation, may be created locally in your browser or device.
Once you download or otherwise export a file, the copy on your device is under your control and is not deleted merely because you later remove the project or StoryStudio account.
Data Retention
StoryStudio generally retains your account and project information while your account remains active and for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service.
When you permanently delete a project, StoryStudio removes the associated active project records according to the application's deletion process. When you permanently delete your StoryStudio account, StoryStudio initiates deletion of the account and associated StoryStudio records that are not required to be retained for a legitimate legal, security, fraud prevention, or compliance purpose.
Copies contained in infrastructure backups, security logs, or disaster recovery systems may remain temporarily until those systems are rotated or expire according to provider retention processes. Exported files already saved on your own devices are not controlled by StoryStudio after download.
Deleting Your Account
You can initiate permanent account deletion inside StoryStudio:
- Open a project and choose Settings.
- Open the Privacy & Account section.
- Choose Delete StoryStudio Account and complete the confirmation steps.
Account deletion is intended to remove your StoryStudio login and associated StoryStudio project data. Export any material you want to retain before deleting your account.
Your Privacy Choices
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights concerning access, correction, portability, deletion, restriction, or objection to certain processing of your personal information.
StoryStudio provides in-product tools for exporting project data and deleting your account. You may also contact StoryStudio using the privacy contact listed below regarding a privacy request.
Children's Privacy
StoryStudio is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly seek to collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to StoryStudio in a manner that violates applicable law, contact StoryStudio so the matter can be reviewed.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
StoryStudio may update this Privacy Policy as the product, service providers, legal requirements, or data practices change. Material updates will be reflected by changing the effective date shown at the top of this page and, when appropriate, by providing an additional notice in the product.
